Drowning Lessons

Because apparently being the one that cares for others never pays off. You seem to always get stabbed in the back one way or the other with friends. Seems like close family are the only ones you can really really count on.

So yeah you can assume that my day today was pretty shitty. I lost a friend today. No he’s not dead, he simply stopped being a friend. After 10 months of talking having fun together and being pretty good friends online it’s finally over now.

Hadn’t heard from him for months before I spoke to him today. Every day that he was in Baghdad, Iraq I had been praying for him, worrying about him. Checking the dod (department of defense) releases every couple of days just to be sure his fucking name wasn’t in the lists of KIA’s or non combat army casualties. Being updated by the USF-Iraq weekly newsletters. Bursting into tears when reading the newspaper talk about bombings in Iraq and how American soldiers died in them and hoping to God he wasn’t one of them.

All because I thought I had this amazing friend who loved to talk with me, who shared so many interests with me and who I thought was always nice and honest. But then the discharge of January 2010 came and he was back home and he broke all contact with me completely. I still kept checking dod releases to be sure I didn’t miss anything, and I tried contacting him through his myspace and the alesanaofficial profile and even contacted a friend of his once after the Baghdad bombings just to be sure he was alive.

Then yesterday I found him on facebook and sent him a friends request. He accepted, I left a comment on his wall about how I was so glad that he was alive and I asked what was up with the lack of contact. Even suggested that we’d finally get to play Halo 3 live on the xbox 360 together. (He has an xbox with halo back in Iraq but no live connection) This comment was deleted. And so were all my other picture comments I posted about a halo picture, and how cute his baby looked on a picture of him with his lil’ daughter.

But before all my comments were deleted, his wife had replied to the comment I made about Halo 3 with only 1 word: “dislike”. So I guess I understand it now. He’s broken contact with me and deleting any word I say to him because he’s back home with his wife now and apparently he can’t be normal friends with me at the same time which is bullshit. Either that or he’s afraid his wife will look into it differently.

Oh but I guess it’s okay to talk to me and be friends with me when you’re in Iraq all alone, lonely and bored, right? Because then your wife isn’t near you and you can do whatever the fuck you want without being afraid of her.

And now you’re home and here I was so happy you were back home and alive when really you being home meant that I was officially dead to you.

Well if I’m dead to you, then you’re dead to me too. Don’t call on me when you’re back in Iraq because I don’t play ball like that.

So fuck you Steven. You’re a dick and a coward.

has been haunting me in my dreams lately. WTF is up with that?
Last night in example I dreamed that there was like this lan party and he was there playing with me on his undead Brogue character (which he hasn’t touched in ages) but I was still on my night elf priest and he was forcing me into the ways of the horde and there was something about beer not being cold enough and somewhere after that I woke up xD

So it turned out that Pat put my name on the guest list, but I didn’t find this out until it was too late and I had missed the sound check :( but according to Shawn everyone was tired and deadbeat from waking up early in the morning to catch the boat towards Holland anyways.
And as I’ve said earlier, Emarosa unfortunately couldn’t make it due to the delay in plane flights because of the volcanic ash hanging above Europe.
So we started off with Bury Tomorrow which were pretty good and totally made up for not performing when they were here with Blessthefall but didn’t perform because they were sick from food poisoning.
A Skylit Drive was as always awesome though I wish Jag would interact with the crowd more lol. :) But I had recently seen them live in Amsterdam already (and on that live webcast thingy with Alesana of course lol)
And then Alesana came.. and I was lucky to again be up front to the left in front of Shawn. :D It was totally cool because he recognized me not only from the AlesanaOfficial website but from me seeing them last year in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. :D So he would occasionally high five me and stuff like that and he held me head against his and to the mic during Tilting The Hourglass just like he did with me last time I saw them in Amsterdam at Melkweg only that time it was during Apology. ^_^
So then they were like “okay that was our last song, goodbye!” But no of course not, how could they leave us without singing Apology, right? They never skip Apology no matter what. :) So after we all yelled one more song etc they came and played Apology as the extra song. After that was done Shawn was giving away stuff and he gave me the set list. :D so yes I’ll add a picture of the song set list to the blog.
Afterwards I hung around and waited until they crawled out from backstage to say hi. I first spoke to Dennis who was like “Oh hey you’re the girl from the website! Shawn said he saw you! Your name is … Shirley, right?” and we talked about how there weren’t vip tickets made available on the website and how much that sucks for everyone. Then I took a picture with Dennis, he decided to pick me up like the strong dinosaur he is :D only in the picture I look evil and as if I have a double chin xD but I do not!
And then I spoke to Jeremy who looked really tired, hugged hugged hugged him as I promised him I would. :D They by the way took so long backstage because they were taking turns taking a shower. I think Shane was the first to finish his shower.
And then I saw Shawn and I hugged him and we talked about how he indeed did recognize me from the AlesanaOfficial website AND from the gigs I attended in Amsterdam and Rotterdam last year. We also talked about how I missed the sound check he was the one that told me that I didn’t miss much since they were all so tired from waking up too early for the boat. And we talked about The Dark Towers books and I asked him how far in the series he was and he admitted he at the moment had switched to another book series and that he switches back and forth between them. And we also talked about how he would be at Groezrock in Belgium tomorrow and asked if I would be there or at any other concerts but I had to let him down because I can’t make it to the Groezrock festival tomorrow :( but I promised to see him the next time he’d be in Holland again and he promised to come back online on Alesanaofficial more often and we’d talk more about books and stuff like we used to do. :D
And then I took my picture with him but after that I had to go because the venue people were forcing everyone outside so that they could close. :( Which means I never got to see Jake or Pat! And I wanted to hug and thank Pat sooo badly! But I asked Shawn to say hi to Pat for me so I’m sure he’ll get my message. :)

Chapter 1

As I walked back through the main entrance of my college I saw that my bus had already arrived.
“Darn,” I mumbled to myself while checking my watch to see that the bus was 3 minutes early.
I decided to run and I caught the bus just before it was about to leave.
“Good day,” I greeted the bus driver. He nodded and I walked along towards the end of the bus. It was 4 pm already so of course the bus was crowded. As I reached the back of the bus I realized I could either choose to stand for half an hour or I could bother someone else by sitting next to them. I chose option number two. A guy with emerald green eyes and golden brown short stylish hair met my eyes and gave me a friendly smile. I smiled back and took my place beside him.
“Finally weekend has arrived, huh?” I said to him after 5 minutes of awkward silence.
He turned his head and looked at me as if surprised that I could even speak. More awkward moments of silence passed until he finally replied “Uh yeah, I guess.”
He then looked out of the window again and it seemed as if he was in deep thoughts and I decided not to disturb him so I grabbed a book from my bag and started reading from it.
“Sorry if I seem rude, I just didn’t expect a girl like you to start a conversation with me,” he then spoke to me. “My name is Robert.”
“I’m Shirley,” I then replied. I couldn’t find any words to use as a reaction to what he just said. Why wouldn’t he expect someone like me to want to talk to him? Does he mean that in a good or bad way?
I cautiously took my gaze away from my book to look at him. He instantly locked his gaze with mine and I felt hypnotized by the endless green that swam in his eyes.
“I didn’t mean that in a bad way,” he said while smiling. “Most people don’t notice me.”
“Well most people don’t notice me either I guess,” I answered. “But then again I can’t always tell when I don’t have my glasses on and I mostly sway away from most human contact,” I said jokingly.
He laughed and I couldn’t help but laugh along.
“Then I guess we understand each other,” he then said while finally breaking his gaze from me to take another glance at the book I was holding.
“The Vampire Lestat,” he read out loud, obviously having seen the cover of my book before I opened it. “I love Anne Rice. She has a talent of describing a story with such detail and beauty that you are practically sucked into the book and taken away from any surrounding reality,” he then said.
“And that’s exactly what happens to me when I read her books,” I acknowledged. “Makes the traveling from home to college and back everyday a lot more bearable.”
“How far in are you?” he asked me.
“Oh I just finished the part where he and Nicholas discussed his malady of mortality,” I told him.
“It’s a pity they never made a sequel movie after Interview With A Vampire and decided to take bits and pieces from The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned and squeeze that into one movie that barely represented the essence of the books,” he said to me while scanning me from head to toe.
The fact that he was checking me out preoccupied my thoughts and for a moment I forgot that he just said something so I quickly replied “Yeah well that’s Hollywood I guess. Maybe Tom Cruise didn’t feel like doing a sequel. Stuart Townsend wasn’t that bad in Queen of the Damned though.”
“Maybe to you females he wasn’t that bad but I found his acting to be quite mediocre,” he said while smiling mockingly. “Though I guess it’s cool that he shares his name with one of Anne Rice’s characters from the book ‘The Witching Hour’,” he then continued.
“Yeah I read that somewhere about how he thought Anne Rice had written him into the book and he felt honored about it, until Anne Rice then told him that she had written it 11 years prior,” I recalled.
“Must have been an awkward and embarrassing moment for him,” Robert remarked.
“So is it just Anne Rice or are you into vampire books?” he asked.
“I guess you can say I’m into vampire books at the moment. Recently finished ‘The House of Night’ books by PC Cast, and I started ‘The Vampire Academy’ books a few weeks ago,” I answered him.
“Have you read Bram Stoker’s Dracula yet?” he questioned me.
“Yeah I have actually and I’m waiting for the sequel book ‘Dracula The Un-Dead’ by his great grandnephew Dacre Stoker,” I proudly told him.
“Hm, well how about “The Mortal Instruments’ books by Cassandra Clare?” he then asked me.
“Never heard of it, is it any good?” I asked him.
“Oh you have to read them! They’re a lot better than those House of Night books you’ve become accustomed to. Google ‘City of Bones’, that’s the first book of the four,” he recommended me.
“Hey, I’m reading Anne Rice here!” I claimed jokingly. “House of Night is quite easy and fun to read through and I’ve enjoyed every page I’ve read,” I then said defensively.
“I was just joking,” he said and then continued “Even Stephenie Meyer loves these books. So if you’ve read ‘The Twilight Saga’ and you trust her, then you should read it.
“Yeah I read her books including ‘The Host’. Must admit that I skipped half of Breaking Dawn though,” I then told him while feeling a bit ashamed.
“Breaking Dawn was the worst of the saga I must say. It was like reading fan fiction. I can’t imagine how it’s going to be when they make that into a movie,” he said and then asked “But what exactly stopped you halfway into the book?”
I stared at the Anne Rice book I held in my hands and was unsure of what I should say to a stranger I had only met 15 minutes ago.
“Ah it’s something personal. Say no more,” he told me and gave me a look full understanding.
“Eclipse was my favorite though,” I then told him, trying to change the subject.
“Yeah that was the best part of it all. I’m eager to see them make that into a movie,” he replied.
At that moment Robert pushed the stop button and I realized that the bus had reached Dordrecht coming from Rotterdam a lot sooner than I expected.
“This is my stop,” he told me as the bus approached the shopping center of Dordrecht.
My stop was a few streets ahead at the main train station.
“It was nice meeting you Shirley. Maybe we will meet again. Which university do you attend?” he asked me. I was putting my book back into my bag when I noticed he had no luggage at all.
“I study at the University of Rotterdam,” I replied.
“Good,” he then said with a smile of satisfaction on his face. “I attend the Erasmus University which is right next to the University of Rotterdam.”
“Until we meet again then,” I said and shook his hand. “Have a nice weekend!”
He shook my hand a bit longer than I intended. When he finally stopped shaking it he simply just held my hand in his and was carefully feeling the top of my hand with his thumb. He held a puzzled gaze, as if my hand was something miraculous that he couldn’t help but touch and examine endlessly. When he noticed that he was holding my hand a bit too long and his stop had came and he had to leave he finally let go of my hand and then said “See you soon.”
He left the bus and waved at me before turning down another street. The bus closed its doors and continued to drive towards its last stop, my stop.
“See you soon?” I whispered to myself, repeating his last words.
“What does that mean? That he will be sitting next to me in the bus a lot more often than normal? And what the hell was with the hand holding?” I thought. I then had a sudden realization that I didn’t mind him holding my hand. I didn’t jerk it back and I didn’t tell him to stop. I was dazzled by his touch and wouldn’t have minded it at all if he had continued to hold my hand for a lot longer.
I could feel a blush reaching my cheeks. “Shirley oh Shirley,” I thought. As I started to think of him more I realized how handsome he was. His eyes were hypnotic from the first moment my eyes met them. Trying to snap myself out of these sinful thoughts I pressed the stop button and stood up to walk to the bus doors to scan my transportation card in advance. When the bus stopped I waved the bus driver farewell and wished him a good weekend and then walked on to catch my train.
Once home I would have a few hours to shower and pack up my things in preparation for spending the weekend at my boyfriend Ricardo’s house. I decided that I would wipe these thoughts and emotions from my mind and enjoy the free time I would have. Once seated in the train I shut my eyes and laid my head against the back of the seat and concentrated on the music playing from my ipod until the train had arrived in Gorinchem.

Because the man cleaning my windows right now is HOT.
His eyes as blue as the seven seas.
His hair as black as the feathers of a raven.
And his accent as exotic and hot as hell!
I think my heart skipped a beat when he spoke to me.

So I’m FINALLY done with all my exams and now have 10 days of relaxation (since I don’t have any exams to resit because I passed/aced everything ^_^) and I’m gonna enjoy every second of it.

I’m so psyched to see Alesana, Emarosa and A Skylit Drive next week Thursday! :D

It must be Spring again. Why? Well, on my way home a fly flew directly into my eye and refused to leave my eye socket. So yeah when I got home I rushed to a mirror and saw it sticking around just under my eye, the pesky little thing. I didn’t dare try poking it around with my fingers since my nails are too long so I grabbed a Q-tip and carefully removed it. It looks all icky and gross and it bleeds orange. It bleeds orange? WTF…

So yeah it must be Spring again…

Oh and while I was rushing to a mirror once I got home, I accidentally slammed my most favorite watch (that I bought in Spain) against the wall and now it’s broken -_-

Well on the bright side the weather is awesome today and it’s really sunny.

And also, I totally aced my German test without a doubt.

I’m off to go sit in the backyard doing homework while enjoying the sun.

P.S. I figured it would be good for my eye to get a good cleansing after the freak fly accident so I watched the tragic scene of Denny Duquette in Grey’s Anatomy dying again, and I cried any icky orange blood away.

Another new week, another new Red Bull to drink and start my day.
Got a German exam to do today. Luckily enough I have a few hours off between my class that starts in 7 minutes, and the moment I have to do the exam. So I’ll have plenty of time to rehearse everything and make sure I ace it :D

Easter Weekend was pleasant, didn’t do nothing special in particular.
- Played World of Warcraft with my boyfriend AND collected easter eggs ingame xD
- Spent the Thursday and Friday to relax and cram for my German exam
- Spent Saturday and Sunday at my boyfriend’s house
- Chilled at home with my mom on Monday

All and all it was a nice and relaxing week to catch up on the sleep I’ve lacked from the previous weeks. Which I can really use, since I’ll have a full week of exams ahead of me with more of me lacking sleep and extra stress.

But seeing as how I don’t have any resit exams the week after, I’ll have it real easy the week after the exams in which I’ll chill, prepare the end of this semester, and… ATTEND THE ALESANA CONCERT @ AMSTERDAM ON THE 22ND OF APRIL! :D

So yeah I can’t complain. :)
